English 3
English 3 students will primarily analyze American Literature while looking at the question: What is an American? Writing assignments are designed to provide students with a moderate degree of guidance and scaffolding on structure and topics with the expectation that they will begin to develop independent, critical thinking through analysis, synthesis and argumentation. Students will also be required to incorporate a variety of sources and differing points of view into their writing, using MLA format to cite their sources. Reading assignments, both fiction and nonfiction, will be used to develop skills in extracting main ideas, summarizing ideas, making connections between ideas and selecting relevant details to support a thesis
