“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
–Martin Luther King, Jr.
Service to our community was written into the original charter of The MASTERS Program by our founder, John Bishop. We at TMP believe that hands-on learning and knowing that you are helping others is a way to build self-esteem and a sense of confidence in one’s place in the world.
TMP students serve in the community on a regular basis helping elderly people clean their houses, farming at the Santa Fe Community Farm, or working with dogs and cats at the Humane Society Shelter. They are also encouraged to serve everyday through actions as simple as holding a door for someone, offering to carry a heavy load or to move chairs.
Service is part of all Friday projects and includes county trail maintenance, school leadership activities, working on media arts for TMP and wetlands maintenance, to name a few.
Community Service Days also occur a few times a year when students and staff meet in the community to provide hours of labor to help others.
